"Working
Hard to Preserve and Improve Your Groby"
History
I moved to Groby during 1986 when I bought
my first house with my wife Susan, on Windsor Avenue, Groby which
was a new build at the time by Broseley Homes.
Susan worked in Groby with myself working
all over Leicestershire including Groby carrying out the repair
and sales of domestic appliances which I still do today.
We have since moved home twice, both within
Groby and have lived at our current address of Maverick House,
Pine Tree Avenue, Groby, LE6 0EQ for over 20 years.
Employment
I have run my own company for over twenty
five years repairing, servicing and selling domestic appliances
such as Washing Machines, Tumble Dryers, Dishwashers etc.
Originally trading as "Martin's
Domestic Repairs" eight years ago the company became
Limited with the trading name "Appliancehome Limited".
Many residents in Groby know me very well having had work carried
out on their domestic appliances by me.
In the current economic climate repairs to domestic appliances
are busier than ever, being my core business.
Why I Chose To Become A Parish &
Borough Councillor for Groby
Since 2005 I have been Chairman of the
Groby & Field Head Community Project Parish Plan project.
You may remember the extensive Adult, Children & Youth Questionnaires
that came through your letter box during 2005.
The Parish Plan resulted in the Action
Plan titled "Groby And Field Head Community Project Parish
Plan The Report October 2005 And Beyond" being adopted
by Groby Parish Council, Hinckley & Bosworth Borough Council,
Leicestershire County Council and numerous other partners.
Whilst gaining in age the Parish Plan Report
Action Plan is as relevant and important today as it has ever
been.
The Parish Plan Report Action Plan featured
only recently at the Planning INSPECTORATE Bloor Appeal held
at Hinckley & Bosworth Borough Council during October 2010.
Inspector Lloyd Rogers REFUSED the
Bloor Appeal against the refusal of the Bloor Planning Application
to build 133 homes to the side of Groby Cemetery on land that
is in Ratby.
Further information on this can be found in the News Section
It became obvious to me that residents
were very clear from the Parish Plan results what they wanted
in their Groby (Affordable Housing more facilities for the Youth
etc) and what they certainly did not want (No Large Building
Development, amongst many other things) someone had to represent
their views within the Parish Council and Borough Council.
The only way for me to do this was to stand
for election to both the Groby Parish Council and Hinckley &
Bosworth Borough Council.
Groby Parish Council / Hinckley &
Bosworth Borough Council History
I was firstly elected to Groby Parish Council
on Thursday 18th August 2005 and subsequently re-elected to Groby
Parish Council on Thursday 3rd May 2007.
Serving nearly six years on Groby Parish
Council my attendance record is near perfect, missing only a
couple of meetings through work commitments, one through illness
and very few others by being on Groby ward business but in another
capacity such as at a meeting of Hinckley & Bosworth borough
Council taking place at the same time as the Groby Parish Council
meeting.
On Thursday May 7th 2007 I was also elected
to Hinckley & Bosworth Borough Council for one of the two
Groby Ward positions at Hinckley & Bosworth Borough Council.
I have been elected to Hinckley & Bsworth Borough Council
eversince.
Serving 14 years as a Cllr for Groby at
Hinckley & Bosworth Borough Council again my attendance record
is impressive having missed only two statutory meeting during
the fourteen years, this was for a holiday booked before I stood
for election.
Being part of a team at HBBC my substitution
record for the group is equally impressive.
My responsibilities at HBBC apart from
vitally important day to day ward issues have been time serving
as a member on the Planning Committee, although not a planning
committee member at present, I have substituted for another member
many times in the last two years.
I am currently Chairman of the ICT (Information
Communication Technology Project). Chairman of the DSO Board
that involves Scrutiny of the Refuge and Street Scene Services.
Vice Chairman of the Climate Change Scrutiny Group and a member
of the Licensing Committee, Personnel Committee and attended
all but one Full HBBC Council meetings over the last four years.
Representing outside bodies of Hinckley
& Bosworth Borough Council I am involved with the Bradgate
Landfill Liaison committee, Groby Quarry Liaison committee, Vice
Chairman of the Northern Parishes Community Forum, Chairman of
the Northern Parishes Crime & Safety Forum and the Cllr representative
from Hinckley & Bosworth Borough Council at Caterpillar in
Desford.
